Excentrico
A unique brandy, aged in sherry casks for over 100 years, a dream where excusive aromas and taste can bring the chosen ones to a totally unique experience, total eccentricity, that only a very few can enjoy
Mr. Francisco de la Casa, born on 3 December 1862, continued the family tradition to create exceptional wines and spirits.
During a business trip to the south of Spain, one of his Customers did not have enough money to pay his debts to Mr Francisco, so they agreed the sale of an old cellar for Mr. Francisco to be paid from the sale of the wines and spirits it contained.
While Mr. Francisco sold all the wines, he discovered different barrels of old brandy, which initially were destined for a Customer in the Netherlands who never bought them.
The quality of the barrels and brandies, varied, some already over 100 years old, but most 50 to 70 years old. He chose the best and created the De La Casa family Collection, a family tradition, which was further aged in different sherry casks by his son Mr. Apolinar de la Casa, and after he passed away, by his grandson Mr. Alfredo de la Casa who will be 90 years old in May 2025, and to mark his 90th birthday, this exclusive excentric brandy will be released.
The term “angel’s share” originated in Scotland, where it refers to the amount of whisky that evaporates from the barrels during aging.
Although initially the amount available was slightly around
100 litres, due to the angel’s share, only 12 bottles
are available.
The story goes that the angels in heaven are so fond of the aroma of aging whisky that they take their share of the liquid, leaving a smaller quantity for the distiller to bottle and sell.
In the case of cognac and brandy, the amount of spirit lost to the angel’s share can be significant, sometimes up to 3% of the volume of the barrel each year.
Mr. Alfredo de la Casa’s son, also named Mr. Alfredo de la Casa after his father, runs the Family cellar from England. The family tradition charges the first son of the first son to be in charge of the family’s collections: Benito, Serapio (1794), Tiburcio (1833), Francisco (1862), Apolinar, Alfredo Sr. (1935), Alfredo Jr. (1970) and then his son Louis (2018) when he is old enough.
To celebrate Mr. Alfredo de la Casa’s 55th birthday, they also released an over 50 year old brandy, Insolito.
The special bottles of Excentrico, have been decorated with precious stones belonging to the family. Only 12 exist, of which 9 will be kept by the family, and 3 made available for private sale.
This brandy is unique, not only because of its age, but also because is one of the few left which was made before the first nuclear explosion.
Aged in sherry casks for over 100 years, Excentrico.
